Burundi, officially known as the Republic of Burundi, is a colourful country located in the African Great Lakes region. It is bordered by Rwanda on the north, Tanzania on the south and east and the Democratic Republic of Congo on the west. Much of its west border is adjacent to Lake Tanganyika. The land has an equatorial climate and its economy is mostly based on agriculture and pasture.
To visit Burundi and its inhabitants is an unforgettable experience. The rich traditions, the typical costumes and hairdo’s, the practises that seem weird for us and the exotic meals and fruits make Burundi the ideal travel destination for anybody who wants to get to know the African Cultures. But maybe the most important reason to travel to Burundi are the very rare Silverback Gorillas. The many national parks organise guided excursions where you can admire the gorillas in their natural environment.
Economically Burundi is also doing well. On 1st of July 2007 it will join the East African Community (EAC), an intergovernmental organisation of Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda aimed to strengthen the political stability and the social situation in the participating countries.
