44% of Liberia is covered by large rainforests and the country is mainly known for its magnificent African masks, fine woodcarving and special traditional clothing.
Liberia is dominated by the climate of a tropical rainforest. It has a very high rainfall rate, especially in the period from May to October inclusive. Liberia has a population of about three million, but large swathes of the country still remain uninhabited. There are very few people in the south-east in particular, and most of the people live along the coast.
Liberia has 16 main tribes, which are frequently sub-divided into smaller tribes. Although there is some western influence, the indigenous tribal culture still is very much in evidence. Liberia is an excellent destination for seekers of African masks and woodcarvings. Just as in most other African countries, music plays an important part in the life of the people of Liberia.
