Sun, sea and delicious wine
Portugal is just as sunny and beautiful as its neighbour, Spain. And just as the latter, it is an excellent holiday destination, but less overrun by tourists.
Portugal is situated in southwestern Europe on the Atlantic and enjoys a mild, mediterranean climate. Portugal is split in two by the Tagus river. The northern part of the country is mountainous, rather rainy and cool, while the south is plainer, warmer and drier.
The Algarve, in the extreme south of Portugal, will offer you a relaxing beach holiday. You can have a taste of Portugal's cuisine with 'Bacalhau' fish or dance to the famous 'Fado' music. The cultural cities of Lisbon and Porto also have many attractions. You could for example visit some World Heritage sights. Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is a city with a million inhabitants situated on the Tagus river, which forms an enormous lake in the middle of the city. Porto is situated in the north and is mainly known as a wine-growing region.
